The general perception of most people is that mini storage is anything whereby individuals leave boxes, some of their old clothing, maybe a chair that is disintegrating and yet they are providing themselves with a bit of confidence that they will be able to use it at some point in time. Needs no introduction. But talking to some of the regular users, or, in reality, using it yourself, you start to appreciate the fact that people are posting a lot more interesting stuff in it than you would have imagined. Business operations, e.g. stock. One of my friends has a small online shop, where all her wrapping material, her spares, and a label printer are located in her flat. She had been living in an apartment in a warehouse. It is no longer that way. Her arrival at the unit is melodramatic as though she had entered a small logistics center, yet it works.

And the next are hobby equipment. Of not the accidental kind. I do not refer to part-time stuff that is within your house. Surf boards, camping equipment, full-size DJ set-up. This is the reason why one of the men I met has not dismantled his turntables and speakers, it is because the flatmates had already complained about the noise and the space that they consumed. Fair enough.

It is understandable that people overdo it but seasonal stuff. It is not the only winter jackets. They even possess store holiday decorations and artificial Christmas trees, certain red packets and other supplies of which they actually feel once in a year. It unloads cupboards in a rather disoriented way.

Anything which I was not expecting? Documents. And not those stiff papers that can be scanned in a long brief time but the real copies that would not be lost in taking a risk of disposing by anyone. Corporation records, design manuals, even home work. Their presence there is a strange relief to being at home.

The other one however with a twist is furniture. It need not always be something unwanted as furniture. At some point, there are good stuff and it is what people would like to use in future. The dining table of one of the couples whom I have interviewed is in the waiting room until they can afford bigger space. This did not mean that they lacked the desire to sell it and regret it afterward. There is the waiting table.

Musical instruments, indeed, come, far too frequently. When it is piano, it is painful, but guitar, drum kits, key boards, there is nothing to be strange about that. This is more so to the people who continue playing but not daily. It does not convert the living room into a studio.

Then there is only memory boxes which are no longer boxes. Whole collections. The child toys, travel souvenirs, letters, junks, which are useless, and hard to get rid of. One of the users told me that I would not need to see them on the daily basis, however, I would not be willing to lose them. That stuck.

Sport equipments among children are one of the somewhat unexpected ones. Parents retain the bikes, scooters or even the old uniforms that they can utilize or bequeath to children. It in and out in and out through the years. Saving the house but it may be full of the memories about the adult life.

The mini storage units are not space conscious rather choice conscious. What you hold in your hand, what you hoard, what you are not by far ready to part with. and that line is sometimes longer than they conceive.
